Fleming House Care Accommodation

Our Fleming House care accommodation at Randjes Estate is designed to provide peace of mind to Residents, their families and loved ones. Our Care Manager (Matron), sisters, nurses and care givers make up an exceptional team who do everything they possibly can to make our Residents in care feel at home, engaged and part of the community at Randjes.

Our professional team have a passion for aged care and they are uncompromisingly committed, so you/your loved one are in safe hands.

Randjes Estate is well known for the variety of accommodation options we offer. In addition to our full continuum of care and support options, we also offer studio apartments, 1 and 2 bedroom homes for independent Residents on our beautiful well established 42 acre Estate.

We offer the following levels of care:

Mid Care (Assisted Living)
Frail Care (Dependent living)
Memory Care (including Dementia/Alzheimer)

Due to high occupancy in our Fleming House Care Facility, we are not taking in outside Applicants, only Randjes Residents are being accommodated at present.

Please note that Fleming House is a smoke free environment.

An application for Dependent Living needs to be completed. Financial documentation will need to be supplied to verify affordability for the Resident with regards to the monthly rental commitment. Family can sign surety on behalf of the incoming Resident, in which case we will need financial/bank statements, as well as a SARS clearance certificate from the person who is signing surety.

A full month’s rental is required as a pre-payment before admission, over and above the normal monthly rental amount. The deposit requirement does not apply to Residents living on the Estate.

Once your financials have been approved, and prior to admission to Randjes Estate, all new Residents (irrespective of whether they are independent Life Righters or they are going into Fleming House) will undergo a medical assessment by our onsite Doctor and our Care Manager. The cost of the assessment is for the account of the potential Resident. If you are a member of a medical aid the assessment can be submitted to your medical aid for possible reimbursement.

The result of the medical assessment will determine the level of independence and/or the level of care needed by the Resident so that the appropriate accommodation can be provided.

Mid Care (Assisted Living)

Our Mid Care accommodation can house a maximum of 42 Residents who require occasional assistance with bathing, laundry, housekeeping and management of medicine. Care is provided by the nursing staff in Frail Care.

Mid Care monthly rental includes:

3 meals and 3 teas per day
Water, electricity and maintenance
Cleaning of the room
Nurses assistance with bathing, dressing and bed making
Monitoring and administering of medicines

Daily monitoring and assistance from nursing staff
Nightly monitoring is done by the Frail Care nursing staff on a 2 hourly basis
Generator back-up
Laundry – collected on Mondays, washed and ironed, delivered back to the Resident on Thursdays.

All Mid Care rooms have an intercom and call button which connects them to the Nurses Station in Frail Care.

Preferential rates apply for Randjes Residents transferring to our Care Accommodation.

Activities/Services

Our Activities Co-ordinator provides a weekly stimulating program for our Residents. The activities include chair aerobics, board games, creative arts and crafts, memory games and afternoon movies/documentaries or music videos. A games room is available for those who enjoy puzzles or card games.

The following services are available which carry an additional cost:

Beautician, podiatry and hair dressing.
Doctor and physiotherapist.
Transport for trips to and from Doctors and Hospitals within a 15 km radius.
Incontinence wear (nappies) can be ordered by us on a monthly basis from our service provider and added to your monthly invoice.
DSTV is for your own account should you prefer this.
If you are not using DSTV, we recommend you buy a OVHD (Open View Decoder) from Game for R499. There is no monthly subscription with Open View.
Medication is for your own account or medical aid.
Coffee Shop on the Estate.

Please note that the nursing care is not on a “one resident to one carer” basis. Should you require your own dedicated carer to accompany you on your outings, this will be for your own account and needs to be arranged through the Care Services Manager.

Frail Care and Memory Care

Our Frail Care accommodation can house 43 Residents who require comprehensive 24 hour nursing care. Residents share communal bathrooms specially equipped for Residents requiring this level of care. There are private rooms with/without their own toilet facilities. Fleming House also features a well designed secure environment to provide the most beneficial and comfortable setting for Residents requiring care in one of our 3 Memory Care wards.

Frail Care monthly rental includes:

3 meals and 3 teas daily.
Residents who are unable to walk to the Dining Room will be transported in a wheelchair or their meals will be served in their room.
Medication is administered as prescribed by a Doctor. Residents need to have a dispensary account with Norwood Pharmacy for ordering of medications (chronic or acute). This account can also be used for ordering monthly toiletries, if permitted by the family. Residents can either use our General Practitioner or use one of their own choice who is prepared to visit Randjes.
Daily showering/bathing/bed bathing is managed by the Nurses.
Daily laundry
Daily bed making and room tidied.
Daily cleaning of bathrooms and rooms/wards.
Water, electricity and maintenance.
Generator back-up
Panic/call button at every bed
An individual pocket money account can be maintained for Residents to enable Randjes to purchase personal requirements such as toiletries etc.

We are not equipped to supply continuous piped oxygen or intravenous therapy. If this is required the Resident would need to go to hospital. We are also not equipped to cater for patients with severe psychiatric disorders.
